Arsenal's Gabriel banned after admitting FA improper conduct charge

Arsenal defender Gabriel has been banned for one match after admitting an FA charge of improper conduct. The defender was charged for refusing to leave the field promptly when he was dismissed by referee Mike Dean after a confrontation with Diego Costa during Chelsea's 2-0 victory over Arsenal last weekend. Gabriel's red card and accompanying three-match suspension were rescinded, but he will now miss the Premier League trip to Leicester on Saturday. The player, who requested a personal hearing, was also fined £10,000 and warned as to his future conduct. Following the game, Costa, meanwhile, was found guilty of violent conduct and banned for three matches following a clash with Arsenal's Laurent Koscielny.

In addition, both clubs were charged with failing to control their players during the game and had until 6pm on Thursday to respond. The news is a blow to Arsenal ahead of the trip to in-form Leicester, but one manager Arsene Wenger admitted at the pre-match press conference he expected.

Fernando Torres is a player reborn at Atletico Madrid, says Guillem Balague

Torres now resembles the player he was during his first spell at the Vicente Calderon, says Balague In his weekly column, Sky Sports' Spanish football expert Guillem Balague looks at Fernando Torres's rejuvenation at Atletico Madrid, as well as answering questions on Rafael Benitez and Lionel Messi's penalty-taking abilities… Jackson Martinez and Luciano Vietto were given the opportunity to start again for Atletico Madrid - just as they did against Galatasaray - but they failed to take their opportunity. On the other hand, Fernando Torres, who replaced Martinez at half-time, looks to be rejuvenated back at Atletico. He looks like the Torres of his first spell at the club. Torres opened the scoring against champions Barcelona with a cool finish in their recent league clashHe was really clever in the way he set up Angel Correa - another half-time substitution - for the opener, and of course he took his goal brilliantly. It was very similar to the European Championship final against Germany in 2008. So it was good news on Torres as Atletico got the job done in Eibar. Good news on Correa. But the jury is still out on Vietto, who is one of the disappointments of the season so far, and Martinez, who needs to get sharper.

Flores praises Ighalo impact

Watford manager Quique Sanchez Flores has praised the impact Odio Ighalo has on the squad following his brace in the 2-1 win over Newcastle.
Ighalo netted both of the Hornets' goals in an impressive first half at St James' Park, handing the struggling Magpies their fourth defeat of the season and helping Flores' side back into the top-half of the table.
The Nigerian picked up the man-of-the-match award and while Flores was impressed with Ighalo's showing on the day, he believes the performance of the entire team deserved credit following their second consecutive win.

"He is involved a lot with the team in training during the week, so for us, he is a very important player," Flores is quoted as saying by Sky Sports.
"But I like to talk about the full squad because they are fighting like heroes every single week, they are playing really, really well. They try to improve every time and give the best they have, so its not only one man.
"It was nice for Ighalo, but it was a very good performance from the whole squad."

Mamelodi Sundowns captain Ramahlwe Mphahlele has called on the club's supporters to throw their full weight behind the team as the Brazilians attempt to build momentum in the Premiership.
Sundowns have not had the best of starts in 2015/16, with two losses, a win and draw in the league so far, leaving them 10th in the standings and already five points off the pace at the top.
Against league leaders and newly-crowned MTN8 champions Ajax Cape Town on Wednesday, Sundowns will be looking to avoid a third consecutive loss at the Lucas Moripe Stadium, and Mphahlele knows their fans can make a big difference on the day.http://www.hain.no/images/stadome.asp

"It is when you are going through a difficult time that you need supporters more. We need them to help the team to get over the hump, and get out of the slump in which the team finds itself," Mphahlele said on the club's website.
"I can assure them that we will continue to give everything we can to get results for the team and for the fans.

"It is important to play to your strength and this is what I have always done. We are a team and there are other players who will play the going forward role, but that does not mean there will be a weakness as a result. It is still early in the season, and things will gel soon."
